i remember before i came to the usa i used to go to school in muscat in the country of oman. i went to a english based school. they taught us everything they teach us here. about american civil way and revolutionary war in america.. wars in indian.. it was an indian school though i think that was why.

MY advie for starting middle school? DON’T wear the brands. Yes, the popular kids wear the brands (Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle…) But the kids who became the most popular were the super fashionable who had the cute and different outfit every day. Get the cheaper stuff,a nd more of it. Try Ross and Forever 21. Check out magazines like Teen Vogue for Fashion inspiration, andbe really bold in your style. Keep the makeup simple if you must wear it – a few coats of mascara and some foundation is fine. If you don’t want to wear makeup, three cheers for you. Go without it.
As far as other middle school advice, talk to your teachers, ask them about thier summer, ect. Pay attention in class. Having your teachers appreciate you will pay off big-time. Don’t be like me and be at the head of every prank.

Please Help! I currently live in Florida where we wear shorts and skirts and stuff…. but this year im going to move to New York and have no idea how people dress in middle school because I’ve never been there! Please tell me how middle school students dress in New York… or any place that is cold!
all of them wear abercrombie and fitch, hollister, and american eagle. In manhattan, thats where i go to school, they shop at sak’s fifth avenue, anthropologie, barneys, and especially bloomingdales. they like to call it bloomies and they love it. But all the clothes in these stores are more than a $100 for a shirt. Otherwise just buy abercrombie, hollister, and american eagle which are all cheap brands. everyone wheres it. These three cheaper brands are best suited for public schools, but work anywhere. The other, more expensive stores should only be for those in manhattan and those who go to private schools there since they are filled with rich kids. the average private school in manhattan is $30,000 a year and up so its hard to blend in with their expensive clothes. I go to one on a scholarship though so I’m able to buy expensive clothes. Don’t worry about what you wear, you are in middle school. Start caring in high school. Some people in middle school are still shopping at limited too. Plus you grow out of your clothes fast. Save your money for the more designer ones everyone will have in high school. Im 17 and lived here my whole life by the way.

Your pay depends on what state you live in, what district you teach in, how long you have been teaching, how educated are, how many extra duties you do, etc. There is no one pay amount.
Unionized states in the Northeast and in the West get paid more than non-unionized states.
I have taught in Virginia (non-union) and California(union).
Here is a comparison:
VA- poor pay, great dental and medical, smaller class sizes, 2 planning periods every day, never had to cover for other teachers, required to do lunch/hall duties, pain in the **** requirements to renew your credential, thousands of dollars for having a M.Ed.
CA- better pay, acceptable dental and medical, large class sizes, 1 planning period possibly..because you are required to cover classes because they can’t get enough subs to enter the schools, no lunch/hall duty, pain in the **** requirements to meet the # system LAUSD has set up to get a raise, only $500 for having a M.Ed.
When I started in the 80s, I took home less than $20,000 a year. Nowadays, teachers generally start at $40,000. The old cap used to be 60,000. Now, it is 90,000 in some states.
If you teach a class during your planning, participate in tutoring, etc.,, you can earn extra money.
My recommendation- don’t tutor at school. They tax your money, dictate your hours and students, and conflicts could occur. Make your own contacts and set up your own prices based on your abilities and experience.
I am preparing for Mass. Teachers Licensure Exam for Middle School Math/Science. I have done some preparation already. But wanted to take a look at the books or syllabus which is taught in 6 to 8 grades. I called school and they said they can not give books to me. Does anyone know how to get these text books.

See if you can get the title and author/editor’s name and edition of the books you’re interested in. Then go to Barnes & Noble’s website and click on the tab for textbooks. You might be able to get them used.
My school science fair is comeing up and i really need some suggestions on what to do! I want some thing challenging but fun.I would also like to do something that has to do with the water,plants,or animals in a lake that’s right by my house.or burning things.burning things is always fun.

I am currently planning to apply to several different private high schools for the 2009-2010 academic year, which would be my sophomore year in high school. I will be a freshman at my public high school this coming year, and will apply to these private schools in this time. My question is, will the admissions offices obtain only my high school transcript, or will they look both at my middle school AND high school transcripts? I am hoping for it to not be the latter choice. Thank you for your time and consideration in replying to my question.

I know that middle school grades don’t count for college. But on my transcript it has my Algebra grades from 8th grade (I’m in 9th grade) and it makes my transcript look really, really bad. I had low C’s both semesters. I hate it. If it’s there now, will it stay there forever?
The reality is yes it stay there. C- or better in both semesters is passing and you can still move on to the next level. however lower than a C-, make it up in summer school or repeat it. Unless you want to go to summer school to make the Cs to make your transcript look better. First of all, most University and State look only high school grades. But Universities want A-Cs only not Ds and Fs. but get good grades to satisfy your entry to university and state college. If you want to go to CC, then don’t worry. Grades don’t matter. CC won’t look at your high school grades. but the courses that the counselor had to put you in. Talk to your counselors and case manager about this grade you got.

It is a magnet school- which means that it is supposed to be really great academically. From what I’ve heard around that area of Wake County is that no one wants to send there kids there. The teachers don’t have adequate supplies(like books and paper). I also hear that the school has a huge problem with people getting into fights. But I don’t really know I didn’t go there, nor did any of my bros &sisters.
