What I really mean by this is, where should the hypen be?
Middle School-aged, Middle-School aged, or Middle School aged
I am usually pretty good with grammar, but none of these really look correct to me.
Please help!
If you are using this expression to modify a noun, I’d hyphenate the whole thing:
My niece is a middle-school-aged girl.
However, since hyphens are falling out of use, you can get away with not using them at all, especially with common expressions like this one:
My niece is a middle school aged girl.
I like theProfessor’s reasoning for using hyphens, but I disagree that school-aged goes together. I think that middle-school goes together better than school and aged. I think this is exactly why hyphens are falling into disuse; not even educated types can get them right.
A book that I think has a pretty complete discussion on hyphens is "Woe is I" by O’Connor (I might have gotten the name wrong, but the title is write, and the name is close). Happy punctuating!
I heard it on the radio this morningfrom the state superintendent. She said they changed it this year and that 5o% of students in Georgia failed math and 80% failed Social Studies.
Are there any middle school kids out there that think that you weren’t taught what was on the test this year? I mean even honor roll students where failing math. That’s ubelievable, even w/ Georgia having one of the worst school systems in the country.
They only failed the Social Studies part of the CRCT exam.
The CRCT exam was changed this year, and some idiot at the testing company thought it was "Socialist Studies". So there were questions like:
23. Who said at the wall between East and West Berlin, "Tear down this wall."
a. Mikhail Barisnikov
b. Mikhail Gorbachev
c. Roger Waters
d. Josef Stalin
(test answer sheet showed (b); but the correct answer, Ronald Reagan, wasn’t one of the answers on the test).
38. Our form of representative government, which allows for freedom and liberty for the people is:
a. Oligarchy
b. Social communism
c. Third party
d. Checks and balances
(test answer sheet showed (b); but Republic government wasn’t even on the list, which is the correct answer)
After reviewing the exam and finding it was all skewed to be some socialist Marxist fantasy of what the world should be like, the state decided the test was stunningly flawed and threw out the results.
(Nice try liberals, but you can’t brainwash our kids THAT openly.)
Hi there, I really want to teach environmental studies to elementary or middle school aged kids. If i teach middle school science (i can’t teach in an elementary school- too many other subjects get in the way of science) do i get to actually teach about the environment much?
Yes, teaching about the environment is part of the overall curriculum for middle school teachers. How much you are able to include depends upon a few factors, to include : topics to meet standards, time constraints, and your teaching ability and creativity. I taught an Environmental Science Class at the H.S. level for the entire year to a small AG class using a college text, and, we covered topics we chose, and were unable to complete the book due to the large number of topics and the amount of material….which is tremendous.
How can I get ahold of elementary and middle school math textbooks meeting my local curriculum? I am in ottawa ontario canada, so the local school board is the OCDSB (ottawa carleton district school board). Can I get them through the school or something? I have looked googled to no avail. What would also help is an answer to : How can I find out which books meet the curriculum?
I would call the school board and see what is on there approved list
Are corny or artsy (like those found at http://www.threadless.com) science related T-shirt ever OK? For example, on casual Fridays, or field (sports) days?
I remember that my middle school science teachers fell into two camps: dressy with lab coats over top, or jeans and corny T-shirts, but I am guessing things have changed between the time I was in middle school and when I start teaching next year!
You may find your employer has rules about dress.
In my school, no T-shirts is the basic rule. The exceptions are shirts related to curriculum or a school T-shirt (usually worn on Friday for school spirit). So the cool science shirts would be okay here.
What middle schools feed into Ponchatoula High School in Ponchatoula, LA? I know it depends on where you live but does anyone have a general idea? Or a website where I could find this out? Please, if you are not even FROM Louisiana, what is the point of answering?

My son finished the 8th grade in public school with straight F’s and went from that to straight A’s and B’s being home schooled. Online charter schools are considered the same as public schooling. My son graduated an online charter school and now attends University of Dayton ( a private university ) with scholarships.
Home schooling can work for some. The student needs to be self disciplined enough to do the work and care. Generally less work is involved with an online charter school than in a regular public school. You are also able to work at your own pace. k12 will customize your curriculum and make sure you are where you need to be.
This is the school my other children are now attending,

Depending on where you live they may be a help, if not, there are online charter schools all over.
They will provide you with the computer, printer, supplies and books that you need as well as teachers and academic advisors. This is the same as a public school but ONLINE at home.
If you choose not to use a virtual school , yes you can still purchase k12 products. http://v7.k12.com/independence.html…
If you need anything else feel free to email me
I have 2 childred that will attend Deland Middle School, in Volusia County, is there a list of supplies that I can obtain at this time so that I can get the needed supplies before the first day of School?
Wouldn’t it be more reasonable to telephone your school and ask them OR look up your school on the Internet?
okay ive lived in the middle east for 7 years and im studying highscool currently in the middle east , but it is completly diffrent than high school in america , im going to study collage in america , but what requrments do i need to get into medical school ?
You want to become a doctor? You can’t study to become a doctor – you can’t go to medical school – for your bachelors degree in the US. In the US, medicine is a post-graduate program only.
So in the US, you first get your bachelors degree in any subject, then apply to med school. While you’re getting your bachelors, you do need to complete a certain series of pre-requisite courses that US med schools require, so speak to the pre-med advisor on campus once you get there, if you chose to study in the US.
I was wondering if anybody knows how much money middle school and high school teachers make in Los Angeles? Can you please tell me how much they make per week, month, and year.
Pay varies depending on the district you work for, and if your school is private, charter or public. I work in LAUSD, the biggest district in california – it covers most of Los Angeles. Pay is the same for elementary or secondary. I teach middle school and this is my pay chart:
http://certificated.lausd.k12.ca.us/Research/documents/salarytables/ttableannual.pdf
So take the amount and divide by 12 – we get paid monthly.
good luck!
