What do you think about a 4 day work week for high school and middle school teachers?

Posted by admin on November 16th, 2009 and filed under middle school teachers | 4 Comments »

Are you thinking….extend the hours for each day?

I can see going to a 4-day week in HS but not in middle school. We have so much curriculum to cover in such a short amount of time that I would be fearful of shortening the school week by a whole day.

Actually, I would prefer to lengthen the school day (still 5-days a week) but have more breaks. 6 weeks on 1 week off.

    Good question.

Where can I find the full text of a middle school math book online?

Posted by admin on November 16th, 2009 and filed under middle school math | 3 Comments »

I am not looking for a specific textbook. Any middle school textbook is fine. I need to read one for a college assignment.

I don’t think the full text is online. Textbooks have websites to go along with the text that have review and practice tests and things like that, but the entire text I don’t think so.

Do you know the names of publishers?
    Like Prentice Hall, McGraw-Hill, Glencoe

i’m up for almost any science fair project that’s middle school and up involving vinegar. i am not looking for volcano, or egg cause those are for elementary

Um. Getting rid of carpet stains…I think you like mix vinegar and some other liquids and you put it on the carpet and rub and it comes out! Viola!

And to ih8mycar1994: That experiment is almost identical to the erupting volcano….same ingredients and stuff. The only thing that’s missing is a volcano sculpture…

do middle school grades matter for college?

Posted by admin on November 13th, 2009 and filed under middle school grades | 13 Comments »

my mom always makes a big deal if i get a C on my report card, im in 8th grade (one year till high school) and i dont think they matter for college, ive asked a few people in high school and they say middle school was just getting you prepared for high school, so the main quesiton is do middle school grades really matter for college?

No, they do not matter at all. You have to submit high school transcripts with most college applications. You NEVER have to submit middle school transcripts. You could make it through middle school on all D’s and no college admissions office would ever know.

How do you organize a Middle school talent show ?

Posted by admin on November 13th, 2009 and filed under middle school | 1 Comment »

Please give me tips, advice and all the how to’s. Whatever I can get. I’m a middle school student organizing a middle school Talent show, i’m very well known around the school but I don’t know if it’ll be easy for me.

Start by decided what the rules will be (you may want to work with a teacher on this part) – you will need rules – and type them up. Everyone in the talent show will need a copy of the rules. The rules need to state what kind of performances are allowed, how long those performances can be, what things aren’t allowed (such an inappropriately sensual performances or songs containing lots of profanity), and how to sign up. If it is a competition, then the rules also need to state how the performers will be judged, who will judge them, and what the winners receive. Then make up an entry form which includes for contestants to write their name, address, phone number (so they can be contacted if more info is needed or problems arise), You may want to include parent’s name – and the school may require a parent’s signature. Then it should ask for the name of the group and/or list of every performer in the group, the title of the work being performed, name of the composer/writer, aproximately how long the work is, and what equipment is being used (music stand, piano, etc…). Set a deadline for these entry forms to be turned in and work with the school staff to see that every student (who is eligible to perform) gets a copy of the rules and the entry form. Oh, also don’t forget to put on the form the date and time of the show. Then, when the deadline is past, get all the forms together and use them to make a show roster (a list of who’s going to perform and in what order). Also check each form to make sure that they follow the guidelines listed in the rules. If an entry is against the rules, contact the person and explain the situation and give them a chance to change to meet the rules). Be sure to work with the school staff. Teachers can be a great help to you – it’s a lot to do by yourself.

some middle school students in Cae Elizabeth know the technique to fall unconscious. What is it?

Posted by admin on November 13th, 2009 and filed under middle school students | 2 Comments »

In yr2004 I read a news item in the newspaper that some students of the middle school in Cape Elizabeth become unconscious by stopping supply to the brain. Health authorities have found that this practice has not affected their memory and intelligence badly so far.I would like to know the details.

I don’t know who told you health authorities found the practice safe – IT IS NOT!

Health Authorities ARE WARNING ITS A DANGEROUS THING TO DO!
You run the risk of death or living as a vegetable from brain damage when you screw up.., meaning someone will have to feed you, cloth you, clean you, you cant go and hang out with friends…, you have a non existent life.

DO NOT RISK IT. Other kids who practice this will tell their friends that these warnings are just to get you to stop.

Any time you shut off blood flow to the brain, there is a risk of death or brain damage.
