  • I’m a youth minister that’s planning a sleepover for our Middle School girls (grades 6-8). Help!?

Posted by admin on February 28th, 2010 and filed under middle school grades | 27 Comments »

I’m planning our annual Middle School Girl’s sleepover. Unfortunately I haven’t been a middle school girl for about 12 years. So, what sort of activities should be planned? I’ve got dinner, a talk, a movie, and that’s about it. What should we do? What are middle school girls into nowadays? Hanna Montana? I have no clue. HELP!!
Oh my gosh. GREAT ideas. You all ROCK!

Hanna Montana is a little childish for middle school girls (true they probably all watch it, but will not admit it). Lets see….Wehn i went to youth group events. we would watch a movie. dinner. I remember my pastor used to bring up contemporary christian issues alot at gatherings. I suggest playing games such as twister, catch phrase, taboo, scene it…etc stuff like that. also, alot of girls are getting into video games now a days, i would see if you know anyone who has a wii or playstation and try to play guitar hero, ddr…stuff like that. Well, good luck, have fun. Trust me, girls will be girls and have fun with or without planned activities.

How can we bring back middle school sports?

Posted by admin on February 28th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 1 Comment »

Due to the recession, our middle school will be cutting out all middle school sports next year. My school is a very athletic school, and most things are sports centered and sports related. Without them, school won’t be as fun or interesting, and many of the things we normally do won’t happen because without the sports, there will be no reason to have them (Pep rallies, for example). What can we do to convince the state or school system to bring back our middle school sports?

start a petition. make a page that explains why you should have sports and get a LOT of people to sign it. explain on the page about why you think sports benefits you. if you get enough people to sign it im pretty sure they would reconsider getting rid of all sports. GOOD LUCK!

What would be a fun activity for middle school students?

At our school we do "mini-courses" or clubs for four or five weeks. They consist of fun activities outside of the regular curriculum. Some teachers do Guitar Hero, sports, kindergarten help, etc. What are some fun things I could do for my mini-course?

u could make a "dance club" and u could do different types of dancing like tango, ballet, tap, idk whatever but i personally think that would be fun!

When Middle-School teachers use corporal punishment on the students for talking, will later teachers have to?

use corporal punishment to get them to talk more?

First you need to check with the district policy. If corporal punishment is used….it should be the principle not the teacher.

If this is not part of the district policy then the teacher needs to be reported.

I worked in a school district that used corporal punishment and only the principle could give the licks. The parents were called prior to the licks, the principle and the student both spoke with the parent. In high school many parents would come up to the school and give their child licks too. It did deter from the action.

Corporal punishment for not participating in class is a little far. You really need to review the district discipline policy. If the policy has been violated….report it to an administrator.

how are we ever going to get away from this stuff?

    Hi there !

God is truth …God is not a religion.

Why are there still segregated schools ….

Why are there still segregated grave yards…..

Why …as the Bible has always pointed out that man will always dominate man to his own injury?

Why do we bury Nuclear waste and make it another generations problem?

Why did the bible always say men were ruining the earth?

I agree that was one among many stupid things man has done .

Does MIT look at middle school grades?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under middle school grades | 2 Comments »

I’m an eighth grader in Calculus 1 (not so ordinary, as you can see). I have been getting all As in the math courses, A-s and As in science, and if it matters, the lowest grade I got was a B- in english. Would they look at this, if yes, then would this be good?

No, colleges don’t care what you did before 8th grade except in very specific circumstances, like taking calculus before starting high school. If those grades appear on your high school transcript, they’ll see them – if they don’t, they won’t. But you’ll have to start taking college math classes next – or just go to college.

what are some great art projects for middle school students?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under middle school students | 5 Comments »

I run an after school program. It only runs about an hour to an hour and a half, a project should be one that is going to be completed in about two sessions (three hours)

what is a project that my students could do?

materials need to be less than a dollar a student– there are about 30 students, about 7 of them are autistic.

since more than half the costs are coming from my own pocket, i can’t spend too much.

i would also like my students to learn a project that is inspired from a famous artist. ex- picasso style self portraits, etc.

    thanks for your help!
the autistic students have one on one help–so they are able to do more elaborate projects.

i would try a project that lets the kids be really creative and focus on painting what they feel. try cubism. anyone can do it and its fun for the kids to see what they can find in others students work. some basic crayola paint, markers, and crayons plus paper is all u need, besides maybe cubism pictures from the internet.
