  • Should there be a special category for middle school teachers from Tennessee? What would Gilligan do?

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2010 and filed under middle school teachers | 3 Comments »

Ok Gilligan would be stumbling over himself in his sweet but clutzy way just to make it up to the teacher’s desk to answer this question. That’s WWGD.

But should there be a category for middle school teachers period. We could make it our own little commune….. like Gilligan’s island. We could have a professor of chemistry. A millionaire to teach math and finance. A drama teacher with Ginger’esque talent and finesse. A nautical class even taught by our very own skipper. And marianny……. dear marianne could teach home economics. Hey….. everyone needs to know how to cook a coconut cream pie. It’s a must!!

We could all answer about our expertise……… heck we could even combine the theme with survivor and vote off the worst answerer vs. the best!!

Yes…… the more I think about it…… the more I think this category is a must!!! :)

(thanks for the fun……. you are a dear!!)

Study Tips for Praxis: Middle School Math?

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2010 and filed under middle school math | 2 Comments »

I’m going to sign up for the Middle School Math Praxis test, but I would like to know if anyone else took the test and topics I should really focus on. Were there topics on there you were surprised to see for middle school math? Did you use a good study guide? Math usually comes easy for me, but I’m an elementary school teacher, and I’m sure I need to brush up on some topics.

    Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

I did not know they had a separate PRAXIS for Middle School Math. I took the general Math PRAXIS and I teach high school math. I thought it was very simple, but my bachelors degree is in mathematics, so that might explain it.

If it’s been a while since you had trigonometry and calculus, I would brush up on those. Also, the PRAXIS website has practice tests and practice questions you can take. If you can’t find a full practice test online, call a local university education department. They should have some practice PRAXIS exams as well.

Good luck! Don’t sweat it. It’s really not very hard.

I have to do a middle school science experiment.I need some ideas but please no sites.?

I’m in the 7th grade but its for a 7-8th grade science fair. It needs to be a sort of complicated project. There are no WHY or HOW questions allowed.

Judges like projects that appear to attempt to solve real world problems. You could do, "Which color of light shines brightest through fog?" That could be applied to car headlights and the like. Think of things that a real world problems that people need solved. You could do:
Which type of windvane in most accurate?
Which wing design on a paper airplane flies the farthest?
What type of music makes plants grow the best?

What Are Some Good Online Schools?? I Live In New York, I Want To Go To School Online Instead Of Public School…. I’m Currently In 7th Grade

My son is in 7th grade and attends through Connections Academy. This is our first year, but it is a very good school. If you go onto their site, you can see if it is in your state www.connectionsacademy.com
If they are not available, you can check through your state’s department of education. They may show virtual options or have a way to search their site or call them to see.

How is high school different from middle school?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 2 Comments »

I’m going to a magnet high school and my mom assures me since it IS a magnet school it will be much different from a public high school. Is that true? I had a rather difficult time in middle school due to bullying. Is it going to be like that in my school?

    HELP!

if it is different from public school, your really lucky! Anyway i have no idea what a magnet school is like, but i do know that high school and middle are very different. You have so much more freedom and the people become more mature [even some of the guys] although some will never grow up. i think bullying will end for you if you are going to a magnet school since the kids probably are smart and beyond that kind of aimless cruelty. I think you will like it once you get used to it.

    Good Luck :]

What percent of middle school students are subject to peer pressure?

Posted by admin on February 15th, 2010 and filed under middle school students | 7 Comments »

I need this for a school newspaper article and I can’t find it anywhere!

I would imagine 100% of middle school students are subject to some form of peer pressure. Remember, peer pressure can be in the form of "big" things such as going to a party with alcohol or taking a puff of a cigarette…or it could be "smaller" things (less noticeable) like telling a lie or doing someone else’s homework. Also, peer pressure is usually talked about with a negative connotation, but peer pressure can also be positive. Friends can pressure you into doing the right thing, too!

Do you think it’s ok for elementary and middle school teachers to encourage snitching?

well i think they’re supposed to call it reporting and they should encourage it if it’s important and an emergency
