UCs do not look at coursework or grades for 7th or 8th. You may report foreign language or math courses completed, but grades are not required for those.
no, but the grades you get now affect which classes you get to take in high school, therefore influencing your college and career options.

im in 8th grade and I really want to get into honor classes. In 6th grade i got straight A’s. In 7th I got B’s and C’s and this year I got A’s and some B’s. Im moving this summer, so will the high school I go to have a record of my grades? If they do will they average 6th, 7th and 8th, or look at ALL grades? or do they only look at 8th grade grades?
I know AP is hard so Im striving for honors instead

We dont have middle school honors just regular classes at my middle school

middle school grades somewhat effect your high school placement. if you get good grades like As and Bs than your teachers will recommend you for honors classes. after all that is taken care of you get a form that says all the classes you are possible going to be in and if you didnt get recommended for honors classes and you want them just write it down on the sheet and they might consider putting you in them. this is just for 9th grade and your 8th grades grades are the only thing getting looked at. thats what happens at my school

I really want to go to UCLA or UC Berkeley. I’ve always been in a advanced math program ( now eighth grade in geometry) and I also maintain a GPA of 3.8 to 4.0. But this year I got 2 F’s and a few D’s or C’s on some tests/quizzes in math. My GPA is still around 3.8 but does that mean I might not be able to go to either of those colleges?

You’ll be fine. You seem like someone who is focused (perhaps even too much) on doing well in school and as such you’ll be able to work harder to bring those grades up. Also, you’re in 8th grade and taking geometry, you’re well ahead of where most 8th graders are and colleges will recognize this and be lenient on any poor grades you receive. Aside from that, 8th grade really doesnt matter except for placements in high school, colleges wont look at your grades that early, nevermind a few bad test scores, hell they dont even really pay attention to freshmen year!

I’m currently in middle school and I have an F in Social Studies. It’s one year away from high school and the teachers are making a big deal about it. I am trying really hard to bring my grade up, but my teacher is really hard and not giving many assignments that could boost my grade. It’s still the beginning of the year but I have about 6 weeks left until the quarter is over. I’m not going to major in social studies or anything but I wonder how much middle school grades cost. What would you consider a passing grade? BTW I’m taking honors.
I’m not bad in Social Studies, I just didn’t get good grades in some homework assignments (There is only 3 homework counted in grade) I do well in other classes and I always had at least all 90% during middle school until now.

Honors are hard! I take it you’ve asked your teacher for extra credit assignments. You can do any extra-credit if your teacher will give it to you and that will help. My question is whether lower grades now affect your class placement in high school? I think you’re going to be just fine because you’ve got your attention on the problem and you are doing everything you can to improve it.

No, they barely care about your 9th and 10th grade scores, it’s your 11th and 12th that mostly count

im not doing very well in school right now because i got lazy and the same thing happened last year in 7th grade but i get insanely above average on the state tests

If you are in the public school system, neither your grades nor your standardized test scores will make any difference to your advancing to the next grade, assuming of course that you aren’t flunking out.

Once you’re in high school, both your grades and PSAT/SAT/ACT scores will be critical in determining which, if any, of your schools of choice will accept you. The point is not only to learn the material being taught, but also to learn good study habits and self discipline. After high school, no one will be holding your hand anymore.

So i was just wondering if you could give me your tips on how you got great grades.
Like how you studied, if you did anything before studying, how much you studied per night, ect. I would like to know if any of you guys got a 3.7 gpa in high school, and how you managed to get one.

Thanks so much!

Today is your lucky day. I have great grades and great advice to give you. Out of 671 students I ranked 12th. Here is what you do:
1. Have a positive attitude
2. Do your work
3. Pay Attention
4. Put pressure on yourself to excel
5. Don’t make strategies to do well. Play it by day.

Hope this Helps!!!!!
