Hey… I was wondering if anybody knew of any distance learning courses that could count for an upper division "how to teach middle school math" sequence? My school had buget cuts this year so I cannot recieve my Middle School Math certificate unless I find some other way to fulfill my requirements for the series of classes required. Thanks for your help!!!
I took two classes from Dr. Rachelson. see the link. recommended but check with your district to see if they will allow the units. My district had no problem as they are accredited with SACS.

When I took the test in March 2009, there was no sheet. I thought that there would be, because in the test prep books, they give you one, but there was not one on the test. The only thing I didn’t study that I regret now is formulas! Memorize all the simple formulas like volume for a cylinder, circumference of objects, etc.
Good luck.
I had s math tutor when I was in eighth grade and she charged $70 an hour but I know some that charge as much as $90.
I know I want to be a Math teacher for Middle or High School, but I’ve been hearing conflicting opinions on what degree I should obtain, or which approach would be most successful for me. I would appreciate any help, especially from current Math teachers.
BSc in Math, followed by a BEd in Secondary Education (specializing in math). This gives you a solid foundation in math skills plus the skills you need to teach. There is so much more to teaching than just communication of your knowledge to the students- a BEd program will really set you up for classroom success more than just a certificate. As part of your BSc, take some general science classes as well to increase job opportunities- most schools prefer to hire teachers who can teach "Scimatics" (I don’t know if that’s a real term or just something we toss around in the staff room at my school).
I have a hard time with this is there an easy formula i can learn and im in middle school pre- algebra
x n? im not sure wut ur talking about….
like
1/2 = ?
i do it likke..
1 x 3/2 x 3 = 3/6
or 4/36 = ?
i look at it and i say 4 goes in both numbers…
4÷4/36÷4 = 1/9
is that wut u mean?
I am looking for any good math games for a sixth grader for the Nintendo DS system. More specifically, one that has a flash-cards-like game for multiplication and division as well as many other math challenges geared toward middle schoolers.
big brain academy is the only one that comes to mind
Compare the jobs, not the money, and choose the one that best fits your personality. My guess is that you should stay out of education unless it’s what you want to do more than anything else.
"Is this an open or closed set for given operation?"
a) set of odd whole #s for multiplication
b) set of whole #s less than 100 for addition
c) set of all whole #s whose units digits are 6 for multiplication
a)/c) are closed….b) is open, please explain!
a) When you multiply two odd whole numbers the answer is an odd whole number. That is why the set of odd whole numbers is closed with respect to multiplication.
b) 100 and 1 are both less than 100 but when you add them you get 101 which is not less than 100. That is why the set of whole numbers less than 100 is NOT closed with respect to addition.
c) When you multiply a number that ends in 6 times another number that ends in 6 the answer ends in 6. That is why the set of whole numbers which end in 6 is closed with respect to multiplication.
A number puzzle (Middle School Math Challenge) Help?
Can anyone solve this:
Arrange the nine digits ( 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 ) into 3 groups. Make one group of 2 digits, one group of 3 digits, and one group of four digits, so that when you multiply the first group and the second group, you get the third group of four ( each digits used once)
Example: 39(186)=7,254
There are 6 different combinations.
10 points!
Can u find them all?
42*138=5796
12*483=5796
18*297=5346
48*159=7632
27*198=5346
28*157=4396
Plus the one you already gave: 39*186=7254
I have to take a math entrance exam in Jan., and I was wondering how on earth the essay portion would like, what kind of sample questions do you think a middle school math student would get in the form of a 3 paragraph essay?
Probably like, Two students are growing a plant. Katelyn’s plant grew to 5 feet in one week. Joe’s grew to 7 feet. A week later, Katelyn’s plant was 7 feet tall and Joe’s was 8 feet tall. Explain the difference of percent growth from week to week, and student to student. Try to explain it very thoroughly. Explain work and at the end repeat all data plain and simple. I don’t think you will have to make an essay rather than a short answer. It really depends what grade you are in.
