    in any answers please try to include sources for more accurate data.

    Also if someone could contact peta to find answers it would be sweet!
    deos anybody have highschool info. That would work too~!

    Thanks
    ~SMART

    According to surveys 3% of children between the ages of 8 to 18 are vegetarian which is triple the amount ten years previously. The same percentage of adults are also though as many as 10% say they are but eat occasional fish or chicken. That means that lots more teens (and visiting adults) would eat vegetarian/vegan (veg*n) if they had the option even if they are not full veg*n themselves especially on those days when the main entrees are beef or pork based.

    Here are some of the sources:
    http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007-10-14-veggie-kids_N.htm
    http://www.wwaytv3.com/survey_teen_vegetarians_on_the_rise/11/2007
    http://www.courant.com/features/lifestyle/hc-veggiecool.artapr13,0,2934662.story

    And this page of percentages comparing veg*ns and non-veg*ns from Vegetarian Teen is really interesting:
    http://www.vegetarianteen.com/articles/reasons.shtml

    Including some info such as this:
    ====
    Cholesterol

    *Drop in heart disease risk for every 1 percent decrease in blood cholesterol: 3-4 percent.
    *Blood cholesterol levels of vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians: 14 percent lower.
    *Risk of death from heart disease for vegetarians compared to non-vegetarians: Half.
    *Blood cholesterol levels of vegans (vegetarians who eat no meat, eggs, or dairy products) compared to non-vegetarians: 35 percent lower.
    *Intake of cholesterol for non-vegetarians: 300-500 milligrams/day.
    *Intake of cholesterol for lacto-ovo vegetarians (vegetarians who eat dairy and eggs): 150-300 milligrams/day.
    *Intake of cholesterol for vegans: Zero.
    *Average cholesterol level in the United States: 210.
    *Average cholesterol level of U.S. vegetarians: 161.
    *Average cholesterol level of U.S. vegans: 133.
    ====

    and

    ====
    *Obesity rate among the general U.S. population: 18 percent.
    *Obesity rate among vegetarians: 6 percent.
    *Obesity rate among vegans: 2 percent.
    ====

    Good Luck and Yay for you and your group making such a great difference for everyone.

    Are middle school students really that difficult to teach?

    Posted by admin on December 24th, 2009 and filed under middle school students | 11 Comments »

    I’m going to be graduating this spring and will hopefully get a job teaching middle school science this summer.

    I agree with an above poster.

    It really depends on the teacher. With middle school kids – you know what you are getting. I prefer this level. They are goofy and they are extreme in their needs but they have huge goals and dreams.

    You know those animals they bring into hospitals? they have to have the right demeanor. They will be poked, prodded and they *cannot* react negatively. Thats us middle school teachers.

    today I had to break up a kissing couple as well as tell a boy to put his hotwheels cars away.

    Do you think that middle school students should have the option of foreign language classes?

    Posted by admin on December 21st, 2009 and filed under middle school students | 7 Comments »

    I go to middle school, and where I go, they don’t have foreign languages until high school. What are your views on this? Thx.

    I’m in high school now, but our school had foreign language classes, but INTRODUCTORY.

    Meaning they don’t count for high school and don’t do anything, just take up a class. The only actual benefit is maybe getting a little boost on the first year of high school foreign language classes, or finding out which language you like the best.

    We had Japanese, German, French, Spanish.

    I think they should have it for 8th Graders as a chance to take the first year of high school foreign language classes earlier.

    Why are the general public so down on middle school students hooking up with their teacher?

    It happens a lot more than people realize. Normally it is kept pretty quiet, there is teachers lounge gossip of course.

    It’s not like any of the students are inexperienced. A lot of the real party-girls have been sleeping around since elementary school, and with guys a lot older. What harm is there in it really if one of the guys happens to be their phys ed teacher?

    They are betraying a position of trust with people who are far too immature to make rational decisions about such things. That is why they inevitable get prison sentences when caught – and rightly so!!!!!

    They are pedophiles!!!!!

    What are good books to have my middle school students read?

    I am a first year teacher and teach a variety of different classes. I need some help when it comes to my lit classes. What are good books that I can potentially get to have my 7th and 8th grade students read? I’m from a very small school district and have been using what I have, but it isn’t much! Most of the books are falling apart and/or I don’t have enough copies! If there are any teachers out there that could recommend some books for these grade levels I would be VERY grateful!

    i’m in the 8th grade and my teacher is having us read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. thats a good book to give.

    Why is social networking good for middle school students?

    Posted by admin on December 5th, 2009 and filed under middle school students | 3 Comments »

    can you give me 3 reasons why its good please. im writing a thesis and im explaining why its good for middle school students. or if not good can you give me 3 reasons on why its bad for middle school students

    I ALWAYS CHOOSE A BEST ANSWER
    if you can answer this i’ll love you forever
    ♥♥♥

    why it’s bad:

    1. girls (and sometimes guys) can fall for people online who really turn out to be creepy old guys looking for naked pix, which can lead to lots of problems.

    2. people get too caught up with online relationships and end up hurting them, it can lead to suicide (many headlines about those kinds of things.)

    3. middle schoolers can spend too much time online that they won’t really interact with people verbally, just online or through texting. this could lead to worse grades and plenty of distractions.

    good luck with your essay! =]
