I love English, and I hate math, but I hear that the most in-demand subjects are math and science, then English and history being near the bottom.

Is this true? Is it even worth it to become a teacher in a more low-demand subject?

Yup, Math and Science; but there is still a need for English teachers

Special Ed is also in high demand

But for some reason, when I hit high school, things were totally different. I can honestly say that I enjoyed most of my high school teachers.

Am I off my rocker?
It’s true, elementary and middle school teachers have to deal with annoying little brats, but don’t forget that high school teachers have to deal with hormonal teenagers.

I’d have to agree with you on your summarising. Be nice though; consider what has happened to them to make them that way. I for one would never be a mid-school teacher; I believe it would possibly be one of the worst jobs to have. I also had teachers that possibly belonged in mental health care wards but somehow managed to scrape through. Think of it as a lesson in life.

First you need to check with the district policy. If corporal punishment is used….it should be the principle not the teacher.

If this is not part of the district policy then the teacher needs to be reported.

I worked in a school district that used corporal punishment and only the principle could give the licks. The parents were called prior to the licks, the principle and the student both spoke with the parent. In high school many parents would come up to the school and give their child licks too. It did deter from the action.

Corporal punishment for not participating in class is a little far. You really need to review the district discipline policy. If the policy has been violated….report it to an administrator.

Best Wishes
Blessings

Ok Gilligan would be stumbling over himself in his sweet but clutzy way just to make it up to the teacher’s desk to answer this question. That’s WWGD.

But should there be a category for middle school teachers period. We could make it our own little commune….. like Gilligan’s island. We could have a professor of chemistry. A millionaire to teach math and finance. A drama teacher with Ginger’esque talent and finesse. A nautical class even taught by our very own skipper. And marianny……. dear marianne could teach home economics. Hey….. everyone needs to know how to cook a coconut cream pie. It’s a must!!

We could all answer about our expertise……… heck we could even combine the theme with survivor and vote off the worst answerer vs. the best!!

Yes…… the more I think about it…… the more I think this category is a must!!!

(thanks for the fun……. you are a dear!!)

A bunch of us middle school girls are having a bridal shower for 2 of our teachers tomorrow afternoon. what are some things we can do?

1. Scatergories type game where everyone gets a piece of paper and you write the alphabet down the side, then everyone gets 5 minutes to write something wedding related that begins with each letter (A. Acceptance of proposal B. Bride C. Cake D. Dance, etc.) you get the idea. When your done, everyone reads their answers and each one that no one else has gets a point – most points wins

2. safety pins in rice: get a big bowl and fill it with white rice, then put a bunch of the SMALL safety pins in it (the big ones are too easy). Each person gets a turn to be blind folded and has 2 minutes to find as many pins as they can in the bowl of rice – it’s harder than you’d think! Most pins wins

You should check with the school districts in NJ that you are interested in teaching for, but truthfully, Italian is not one of the major languages offered in US schools; rather they are Spanish, French, and German. Of course you could consider teaching for a Community College or even a University. Good luck.
