They have more homework and have way less energy than a bouncing little kindergartner, and usually they have to do the chores in the house while their little brother or sister watches cartoons. So why in the world can’t the little kids wake up earlier to go to school since they have more energy to burn?

So interms of drama in high school is it different? or is it the same? Im a freshman this year, so i was mostly curious
I have heard the school im going to is way more laid back then my midddle school, but thats just with its rules.

I go to a performing arts high school, so pretty much all the drama is stuff like fighting over parts in upcoming shows and like being competitive.
But in regular high schools, it’s more like who’s the latest 16 year old to get pregnant, what drugs you took in the last weekend, why you got kicked out of your house. But not everyone’s like that.

Any help would be really appreciated and will not only help me, but my fellow middle schoolers i will be speaking to.

Tell them about how special and unique they are and that all their choices would lead to success in life, they need to try to follow their dreams as much as possible. If they are involved with sporting activities, encourage them to continue. Also make sure that they always do have a choice, making the right choice is difficult but they need to learn to make good ones by first of all following instinct and rules. Using Positive energy and following your conscience is also very helpful in making good decisions.

I am from China. Now I am working to find out the advantages of adolescent career planning in the middle and high school in the U.S. I think this will benefit the development of Chinese students. Now I need some advice!
(1) Does the government play a positive role in adolescent career planning? Is there any website describing the detailed information?
(2) Does every middle school or high school have vocational counselors? If students go to ask for advice, what will the counselors do? Will they give personality assessment for the students?
(3) Will the students and parents go to specialized institutions for further advices?

Because our country basically turns education over to individual states there is not federal program for career planning in middle and high schools. Having said that there is a wonderful initiative called Making Middle Grades Work/High Schools That Work in which a key practice is Guidance.

In guidance teachers work with students during what is called Advisor/Advisee in which students do career research and other activities to help the student decide what a good choice for him/her as a vocation may be.

Once a student has an idea of what he/she may be interested, the school sets up a system called Acadamies. In acadamies there are courses of study and the suggested classes that a student should take. For example, if a student knows he or she is interested in the medical field, then they should take the classes suggested for those going into a medical field.

Many states, Ohio being one, have made this inititive a priority, therfore the state offers grant money to schools who implement the program.

As for parent involvement, under Advisor/Advisee, parents are to come to the school and talk with thier child’s advisor, along with their child, and then the parent’s signature is required for the student to register for classes.

Having been a part of HSTW in the past, I have knowledge of it, but you may get more information by visiting the following web site: http://www.hstw.org/index.html. However, let me just say that HSTW does not require that any school do all of the key practices, nor do they tell a school how to implement the key practices. Each school can taylor them to fit the school. Although, at workshops they give many examples of how other schools implement the different key practices.

Even if they get married the likelihood that it will last is abysmal.
You think you’ve got the world figured out at that age and you refuse to listen to anyone who knows what the heck they are talking about. There is a reason there is a driving, drinking, voting and legal age to marry. We don’t let children make life changing decisions on their own.

I’m 13 years old and I really want to be a middle school science teacher. My best friend and I found a middle school that said they would take me as a science teacher and her as a music teacher. I really can’t wait to start for real and I want to know how I can get ahead and start my studies.(And if its possible, classes) I won’t be able to pay for anything at the moment, but I’d really like some help on this.

Sounds like you’re serious! Okay! Well, as far as your schooling goes–take ALL the science classes you can. This also goes for math classes. They go together. When you get to high school, continue this trend. Hopefully, that will include physics and calculus classes.

Over the summers, see if you can get into summer science camps–and eventually even work at these camps as a counselor in the summers. Also, get buddy-buddy with your science teachers (after they get to know you and your work ethic) and ask them if you can TA for them (my school only allows juniors/seniors to TA for teachers but it’s incredibly helpful). Also ask if they know of any programs you can get into or people that you should meet.

Eventually, you’re going to want to observe science teachers in the classroom after you leave high school. It’s hard to see the other side (the teaching side) and fully understand it until you leave your high school life/world behind (check out both middle and high school classes). Look into colleges and universities that have strong education and science departments. If they do their job to help you, you’ll be in and out of college in four years–and with two degrees.

I do want to note that it’s not a bad idea to keep your mind open to other things you love. Take fun classes in high school (while they’re free to you and see what else interests you. Even if you’re set on teaching science, you’re going to need a break every so often. So take some time to find other things you enjoy. Good luck. Science rocks.

Note: When you go to observe science classes, go to different schools. Each school (and district) is run a little differently. Get a feel for it. You’ll have an even better idea of what you like when you student teach. Science is going to be a big need area very soon, so when you’re ready, you could have some great choices to choose from.
