  • On the east coast, for grades 7 and 8, do they call it middle school or junior high, or both?

    i live on east coast and in 7 grade but all towns school systems are different. like we call it middle school but the 7 and 8 grade in my town is really junior high cuz 5 and 6 is middle school. it doesnt really make a difference

      I think it is Middle School everywhere, I just finished it 4 years ago so it should be the same.

      I call it middle school, but no one will laugh and point at you if you choose the other.

      I believe junior high was a more common phrase when my parents were attending.
      It doesn’t matter, everyone will know what you mean either way

      Primary/elementary school: k-5
      Middle school: 6,7,8
      junior high: 7,8
      high school/secondary school: 9-12
