  • Do my middle school grades count for colleges?

Posted by admin on January 25th, 2010 and filed under middle school grades | 8 Comments »

Im in 8th grade, and for the last to 3 years, my grades have been sucking. My parents don’t reward me so I don’t really have anything to push me to get good grades. But I’m really trying to get good grades, straight A’s actually, and so far that’s going well. But I was wondering if my middle school grades even count, or is it just high school. I’m still going to get good grades anyway, I’m just worried if the last few years are going to ruin my work. So if I got all A’s for the rest of this year and high school, could I still get into a really good college? Do colleges even look at middle school grades?

It depends. Some schools count several high school level courses that are advanced for 8th graders into your transcript. Also, sometimes foreign language tests taken at the end of 8th grade carry over. But most of the time they don’t. Check with your guidance counselor.

Also, most colleges would rather see a student improve than not getting better. Just focus from now on and you’ll be fine. Glad to see some young kids thinking about their future!

it only matters if your bad grades prevent you from getting into good classed when you start high school, like if you are not doing well in math and can’t get into an adavaced math class as a fressmen because of your bad grades in 8th grade, that is going to effect your ability to get into a good college, try harder and study more like the president said, also if your school has it try to get into some ap classes in high school, they give you college credits and colleges really like to see that and you can start college

no colleges definitely do not look at middle school grades, only high school grades. but be dilligent! even your freshman year counts, even though it might not be a deciding point.

Your middle school grades might affect your college application a bit, but fear not, because you can still get credits/bonuses by volunteering at certain things (like helping the citizens of your country).

Depending on which math you are in could affect your GPA. If you are taking Algebra this year, or you took it last year, that grade will count for your GPA. Otherwise, your middle school grades definitely do not count.

I took, in 8th grade– Honors Algebra 1 and Spanish 1
^^ Both grades gave me high school credits, which counted for high school.

If your grades weren’t too good, you probably weren’t taking high school classes, though (I’m just guessing).

Don’t worry, just do good through this year and high school and you’ll get into a good college :)

No, in fact there are people that have gone to universities even after they have "unschooled" which is nothing more than learning things by experience, surfing the internet, watching tv, etc. Give it a shot.
