From your experience does the mathematical training from the 6th to 8th grades prepare students to adequately handle high school subjects like geometry and algebra I?

No, and high school math does not prepare students to adequately handle college either.
When I first left home for college, I went to the state university about a hundred miles from my home town. There were 14 of us from my graduating class who all started down there together, and we all took the math placement test. All 14 of us, including guys who had aced their college prep trig and calculus courses in high school, tested into remedial, no-credit, math "refresher," which was just barely a 100-level course.
What does that tell you?

No.
Geometry and algebra should be taught in middle school…if not earlier.

If they pay attention and do their work and study, yes. The real quesiton is whether high school math prepares students for college level math. NO.

No. My math classes always skipped the critical thinking problems in math books. There were huge chunks of the books not even covered.

Dude, there is no uniform curriculum. It’s drawn up by the local board of education.
I know mine did. But yours probably didn’t.

All the math the average person needs was learned by 8th grade.

I don’t know about where ya’ll are but my kid’s in tenth grade and is whipping out calculus and trig on me and expecting me to help. Then I say, "Man! Uh! It’s been awhile!" Then she does it while I sit there and try to remember.

it would help if they taught us how to study first.
