Middle school math homework the equation is q to the second power+2q=2q to the second power. the first q to the second power is it one or two? please help. thanks.
You can say that "the second power" is written as ^2 or if it’s to the forth power ^4, ect.
so q^2+2q=2q^2
Plug in both 1 and 2, and see which one is correct.
1^2 +2(1)= 2(1)^2
1+2=4 incorrect.
2^2+2(2)=2(2)^2
4+4=8 correct
So it’s 2.

q = 2. 2 to the second power is 4 plus 2 x 2 is 8. On the other side, 2 to the second power is 4 x 2 is 8. so q = 2

This is the initial equation : q^2 + 2q = 2q^2
Bring the q^2 to the other side and you get: 2q = 2q^2 -q^2
This simplifies to : 2q = q^2
Divide both sides by q and you get : 2=q
Just a little hint when you have a couple of answers, why don’t you substitute in what you think q equals and see if it works.
Check : sub q=2 into original equation
2^2 + 2×2 = 2×2^2
4+4=2×4
8=8 which means q=2 works
