  • Do all public school middle students have access to a foreign language in the US?

Posted by admin on January 21st, 2010 and filed under middle school students | 6 Comments »

Just wondering if every public middle school in the US makes available foreign language classes?

no… I work for the NYC schools and there are no foreign language classes in my school as a requirement, as an elective or even as an extra curricular activity.

I will say that most schools that have the money offer it.

In CA most middle schools offer Spanish, but French as well, in more affluent schools.

The answers above are incorrect in the case of Los Angeles.

High school yes, middle school no.

no, most schools in my district (in dallas) do have access to spanish (as their only choice of foreign lang) but my school is less than 500 kids so no our kids dont get a choice….they are not offered foreign lang.

I live in upstate New York and students are required to take a language in middle school. I thought it was NY state law.
