I think it is the worst thing they could possible do. These poor kids have to sit and be quiet in class. lunch should be a time for socialization...The difference in the Rio Grande Valley is that they inforce this in Elementary and then wonder why they have so many children in the Principals office for behavioral problems, these kids have NO free time to run, play and just be kids. Luckily our middle school is great they have 1 hr lunch and can go outside to play catch or visit with friends my son loves it, he says it gives him time to catch up on whats going on with his friends. If I were you I would write to TEA and to the District Superintendent and question it. maybe your voice will be the one to resolve the problem. If you are a parent, inform other parents, pass the word, maybe the more people complain the better.. If it was a permanent thing, I would have a problem with it. I would really have a problem if my child did talk and had to go to school on Saturday. I would be there to tell the teacher how stupid it was, and that my child would not be there on Saturday. Then I would take it up with the school board. I am sure I would get more parents on my side to complain too. I can see if it was getting too loud, and they did it to quite the kids down for a day or two, but not for any more time than that.

That's pretty much where kids can talk to there friends how they want like say what's up or talking about what your going to do over the holidays.
