  • What are some good plays for middle school and high school students?

Posted by admin on January 1st, 2010 and filed under middle school students | 7 Comments »

I need good plays that middle and high school students can read, lower and upper level. To study and analyze

Here’s a few that I’ve studied in theatre history classes (just for reading and writing papers on, that sort of thing):

    Glass Menagerie
    A Doll’s House
    Importance of Being Earnest
    Tartuffe
    A Raisin in the Sun
    Oedipus the King
    Uncle Tom’s Cabin
Six Characters in Search of an Author
    Trifles

Of, course, Shakespeare is a given. Here’s some of my favorites:
    Hamlet
    Romeo and Juliet
    Midsummer Night’s Dream
    Twelfth Night
    Much Ado About Nothing
    Macbeth

Romeo and Juliet is good for both the high school and middle school. It’s not very hard at all.

The Glass Menagerie is a great one about the loss of innocence and about becoming independent.

i agree with Kristen. Also, you could try some school play classics such as Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, West Side Story. Some Hamlet, Othello or Romeo and Juliet is fine,, if you dont think that it’s overrated or boring. :)
u can also do excerpts from huge plays such as the Indian Mahabharata, which i did during my last final senior play. but be sure to tell them the beginning and the preceedinng scenes before you begin the scene though.. ;)
