I teach 7th grade English. It’s my second year. It’s hard for me to not feel discouraged right now. Last year, I was so rushed trying to just figure everything out, and I was expected to be kinda sucky (hope I wasn’t, though!).
This year, I’m having trouble being "creative" with a mandated curriculum. Any words of advice or encouragement?
Talk to your colleagues to get some feedback and exchange ideas. Also, try accessing some free educational resources online to give you some creative ideas. Do you only teach English to every year 7 class? i have to teach foreign languages to 6 year 8 ( 13/14 year olds) and that drives me insane.

If you expect to be creative in American public education, you’d better get prepared for disappointment. Just look at your administrator. An ex-jock, right. Most of them are. I’m sure you are a fine, intelligent young person with high ideals. I am equally sure you are wasting that talent. It’s not worth even the summer vacation.
