  • Can secondary education (high school) teachers also teach middle school?

Posted by admin on February 1st, 2010 and filed under middle school teachers | 1 Comment »

I just graduated college in December in North Carolina and got my teaching certificate (actually am waiting on the state to send it to me!) in secondary ed. Someone told me that I can also teach middle school with that same certification, however I forgot who told me that and am having trouble verifying it. Does anyone know if that is true? Thanks

Usually, but it depends on subject. E-mail the state and ask. They may even state it on the certificate if you ask.

Even if they say you can, you may not want to. For example, I am certified in English secondary (grades 5-12) and even meet SACS requirements to teach college transfer courses. But when I taught middle school, I went back to study how to teach reading.
