  • Can you recommend a good book on "classroom discipline" for middle school teachers?

Posted by admin on October 28th, 2009 and filed under middle school teachers | 3 Comments »

I’m entertaining the notion of going back into teaching in 2009. I will test the water by doing some subbing in the New Year. I’ve been out of the classroom for ten years. Can you recommend a refresher on classroom management/discipline?

    Thanks.

    A book:

Classroom Discipline Survival Guide for Middle School/Junior High Teachers (Hardcover)

    or

Building Classroom Discipline (9th Edition) (Paperback)
    by Carol M. Charles

Wong is great for elementary levels but way too ineffective with often defiant middle-schoolers.

Another excellent one is "Tools for Teaching" by Fred Jones

Harry Wong’s First Days of School is wonderful… his techniques may be a bit hokey for middle schoolers, but once you get them used to your style the school year will be much easier.
