  • How can a middle school student get a head start on becoming a science teacher?

Posted by admin on March 28th, 2010 and filed under middle school | 3 Comments »

I’m 13 years old and I really want to be a middle school science teacher. My best friend and I found a middle school that said they would take me as a science teacher and her as a music teacher. I really can’t wait to start for real and I want to know how I can get ahead and start my studies.(And if its possible, classes) I won’t be able to pay for anything at the moment, but I’d really like some help on this.

Sounds like you’re serious! Okay! Well, as far as your schooling goes–take ALL the science classes you can. This also goes for math classes. They go together. When you get to high school, continue this trend. Hopefully, that will include physics and calculus classes.

Over the summers, see if you can get into summer science camps–and eventually even work at these camps as a counselor in the summers. Also, get buddy-buddy with your science teachers (after they get to know you and your work ethic) and ask them if you can TA for them (my school only allows juniors/seniors to TA for teachers but it’s incredibly helpful). Also ask if they know of any programs you can get into or people that you should meet.

Eventually, you’re going to want to observe science teachers in the classroom after you leave high school. It’s hard to see the other side (the teaching side) and fully understand it until you leave your high school life/world behind (check out both middle and high school classes). Look into colleges and universities that have strong education and science departments. If they do their job to help you, you’ll be in and out of college in four years–and with two degrees.

I do want to note that it’s not a bad idea to keep your mind open to other things you love. Take fun classes in high school (while they’re free to you ;) and see what else interests you. Even if you’re set on teaching science, you’re going to need a break every so often. So take some time to find other things you enjoy. Good luck. Science rocks. ;)

Note: When you go to observe science classes, go to different schools. Each school (and district) is run a little differently. Get a feel for it. You’ll have an even better idea of what you like when you student teach. Science is going to be a big need area very soon, so when you’re ready, you could have some great choices to choose from.

What kind of essay questions could be asked on a middle school science exam?

I have to take a science entrance exam in Jan., and I was wondering how on earth the essay portion would like, what kind of sample questions do you think a middle school science student would get in the form of a 3 paragraph essay?

    1. In your own words explain how the planets were formed? (assumption)

    2. Why is it that Pluto is no longer a planet?

    3. Explain how Tuberculosis and Dysentery affect a human’s body.

    4. What is AIDS, how is i transmitted and why can’t humans find a cure?

    5. How can global warming affect the world.

is $845 too much to pay for an online middle school?

Posted by admin on March 24th, 2010 and filed under online middle school | 5 Comments »

    its $845 per school year

It depends on what program it is. I know some that are even more than that.

I would find a local homeschooling group, if you’re not in one, and ask others if they’re familiar with it. Maybe they can suggest other online programs.

Also, you can ask the company for references, people who are currently using it and willing to speak with you. Chances are, those people will all be in favor of it, but you’ll be able to ask them specific questions and get a better idea of whether it’s a good fit for your child.

I believe K12 and connectionsacademy are both free progams, although connections is only available in certain states. Best of luck.

I need some tips on how you guys maintain good grades in Middle School/High School?

Posted by admin on March 24th, 2010 and filed under middle school grades | 1 Comment »

    Hi,
So i was just wondering if you could give me your tips on how you got great grades.
Like how you studied, if you did anything before studying, how much you studied per night, ect. I would like to know if any of you guys got a 3.7 gpa in high school, and how you managed to get one.

    Thanks so much!

Today is your lucky day. I have great grades and great advice to give you. Out of 671 students I ranked 12th. Here is what you do:
    1. Have a positive attitude
    2. Do your work
    3. Pay Attention
    4. Put pressure on yourself to excel
    5. Don’t make strategies to do well. Play it by day.

    Hope this Helps!!!!!

Can I take the PSAT for middle school online?

Posted by admin on March 22nd, 2010 and filed under online middle school | 2 Comments »

I’m in 8th grade and I wanna know how I’d do ’cause the other kids took it and I want to take it too!
It doesn’t necessarily have to be the official version, just something similar.
I want to know my score so I can see what I might get on the Sat.
I’m not asking for an official version that the school knows about and counts.
I’m asking for a kind of "practice" test. Something I can take at home, just for me.

Who would offer the PSAT online? You could open a new "tab" and just look up the answers?

    Silliest question/statement I’ve heard

Here, check out this website: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=psat+practice+test&aq=0&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=PSAT+pr&gs_rfai=

What should I expect for my Middle School Swimming Team tryouts?

Posted by admin on March 14th, 2010 and filed under east middle school | 3 Comments »

I’m trying out for my middle schools swimming team if it helps i live in north-east Florida. They’re in two weeks and I really have NOOOO idea what to expect… Please and thank you!

When I tried out for my middle school swim team, they had me do basic stuff. At first, they tested my endurance, and had everyone swim freestyle in they’re own lane as long as they could. Then they just had us swim like a normal practice would be like, doing all the strokes, kicking, and pulling. They just observe you and it’s really no big deal.
Try-outs don’t influence much in middle school teams, because they don’t really discriminate against the not-so-talented swimmers at such a young age. Don’t stress too much! Just make sure you’re ready and healthy when they come (:

Almost 20, Canadian living in Middle East, Finished high school, would like to continue career back home.?

Posted by admin on March 12th, 2010 and filed under east middle school | 1 Comment »

I’m a Canadian citizen that moved to the Middle East (Kuwait) when I was 12. I Finished high school at an American private school in Kuwait with 1 credit missing back in June of 2009 so I took an online course to get it. I Completed my online course and got the credit and my High School diploma a month ago.

I’m 19 years old and will be 20 next month. I really want to go and start college back in Canada however I have a very low GPA (1.75)

    -What are my options?

-Where can I go with a very low GPA?

-Should I travel to Canada first and look for a community college?

-Will a community college accept me?

-Should I apply by mail and wait for a response (Because that could really take a lot of time and I don’t want to waste my time anymore.)

-What is the process that I need to follow in order to start college back in Canada?

I just need someone to outline the general idea for me, to point out things that I am not aware of, to make the picture a little more clear so that I can at least visualize my goal. Thanks
    Some more questions.

-If I want my own place over there how can I go about and get one? I don’t want to live in a dorm.

-I grew up in st Catharine so that is where I’m hoping to stay. Will Niagara College accept me as a student?

The good news is that you have completed high school, even though with a low GPA. The other good news is that your citizenship will allow you to go back home and seek employment there or go to university. The down side might be that you will need to take some remedial training or courses to get back to a decent school and get a decent job. Good luck.
